Super User programs are a way for you to both recognize and engage your users who are the most active and passionate. These programs are a way to create a strategy around their engagement while in turn rewarding them for their efforts and impact.
These programs can look at community participation, course completion, product engagement, or a combination of any behaviors.
In order to build a successful program, you need to think through the various components of the purpose, the process, and the outcomes.
Define the criteria for participation (e.g., engagement levels, expertise, tenure). What voices would you like to include here? What behaviors would indicate a successful super user? How are you going to track that?
Establish tiers or levels of super users (if applicable). Maybe you have a single super user program, but maybe you have various spaces your audience can get involved (volunteer program, mentor program, community advisory board, early adopter program, customer advisory board, etc.). This could be a great way to bring people in earlier in the process and involve a broader customer base.
Offer meaningful rewards and recognition, such as exclusive content, badges, early access to features, or direct interactions with your company. Maybe you host a super user networking event at your company conference, recognition (in the community, through social media, at events) or host virtual events that are open only to members of this group (AMAs, roadmap webinars, etc.). Find out what would be valuable to this group and work to provide it.
Determine expectations and responsibilities, including engagement frequency, content creation, mentorship roles, reviews, referrals, or case studies. Make sure you are keeping expectations realistic. This isn’t a 2nd job, and should build on behaviors already being exhibited. Create a process so it is more strategic.
