There are several key components that help you build a well-organized, engaging, and aligned program.
Content Themes and Topics
- Identify themes to focus on can help drive a program that is engaging and can be aligned to customer seasons. These can be monthly or quarterly depending on needs.
- Break down these themes into specific topics or sub-themes to allow for focus and depth through various lenses.
Content Types
- Diverse Formats – your customers are unique individuals, so providing a variety of content types such as blogs, videos, podcasts, webinars, infographics and user-generated content will allow you to meet differing needs.
- Educational Content – provide tutorials, how-to guides, FAQs, product guides, and other product information that supports adoption and engagement.
- Interactive Content – including polls, quizzes, and discussions aligned with your content allows you to encourage participation and interaction beyond a static document.
Publishing Schedule
- Frequency – aligning your existing content stream as well as customer needs will help you determine how often your content will be published. This can be daily, weekly, or bi-weekly to maintain a consistent flow of content and build expectations. You might consider a consistent plan for specific content types to build community culture through traditions.
- Timing – consider the timing of your content publication schedule. You can send out a user poll asking for their preference for receiving certain types of information (day of week, frequency, and time of day).
Key Dates and Events
- Community Events – include dates for webinars, live Q&A sessions, live events, etc. to keep members informed and engaged.
- Product Launches – Align content with product releases and updates to generate excitement and provide relevant information.
- Holidays and Special Occasions – plan content around holidays and special events to capitalize on timely and relevant themes.
Content Creation and Assignment
- Content Creators – identify stakeholders with recurring content and work with them to develop a mutually beneficial cadence and process
- Deadlines – set realistic deadlines, working with contributors to align with bandwidth. Having clear expectations increases the likelihood of completion and reduces friction and frustration on both sides.
Promotion and Distribution
- Channels – identify platforms and channels for content storage and sharing (e.g., community, social media, newsletters)
- Promotion Strategies – develop strategies for promoting content to maximize reach and engagement such as teaser posts, discussion campaigns, social media sharing, and email campaigns.
Engagement and Interaction
- Discussion Prompts – include questions and prompts for each content piece to encourage member interaction and engagement and build awareness.
- Feedback Mechanisms – provide ways for members to give feedback on the content such as comments, ratings, and surveys.
- User Generate Content (UGC) Process – provide a way for members to suggest content and encourage UGC to share with your audience.
Analytics and Evaluation
- Metrics – define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure content effectiveness, such as views, likes, shares, comments, and engagement rates.
- Review Process – regularly review content performance and make data-driven adjustments to improve future content planning.
Flexibility and Adaptation
- Adaptability – allow for flexibility in the calendar to accommodate unexpected changes, trends, or community feedback.
- Continuous Improvement – use insights from analytics and community feedback to continuously refine and improve the content calendar.
