Link Types - HL Vanilla Community

When enabled, the Link Types addon automatically opens links that are not on the same domain as your Higher Logic Vanilla community (i.e., external URLs) in a new browser tab.

⭐️ EXAMPLE: If a user is on
higherlogic.vanilla.com
and clicks a link to visit a third-party integration web site, it will open in a new tab; however, if the user clicks a link to somewhere else on
higherlogic.vanilla.com
, they will remain on the same tab.

🛑 IMPORTANT: In the above example, links to
vanilla.com
or
blog.vanilla.com
also won’t open in new tabs.

Benefits

This addon provides two primary benefits:

Even if a user clicks an external link, your community remains in its own tab, helping to keep it top-of-mind and more likely users will continue to engage.

It ensures users do not inadvertently lose their work in certain scenarios. For example, if a user is replying to a discussion and clicks an external link elsewhere in the original post, their comment is preserved because they're not navigated away from the page.

Enable the Link Types addon

The Link Types addon is available at all plan levels, but must be enabled by Vanilla staff.
