📝 NOTE: It is assumed you know how to create custom Dashboards and Charts, and have an understanding of chart Types, Presets, and Metrics. If not, read this article before proceeding.
When building your own Dashboard Charts, you can pull data from various data sources to view different types of analytics events.
This article focuses on the Subscriptions data source, which tracks "subscription" related activity, such as when a user:
- follows or unfollows a category,
- updates their notification preferences for a category, and
- subscribes or unsubscribes to Email Digest.
Overview
Each subscription-related event is logged in your Analytics. The basic metric is a total count of subscription events, as shown below, 226 subscription events.
You can dive deeper into this count in order to get more granular information about the various subscription events, including details such as:
- which categories were followed or unfollowed to trigger the event;
- user-specific data from which you can see who (admins, members, etc.) is most active; and even
- site and session details.
Filter Chart data
Customize what data displays in a Chart with the Group By and Filter options.
- The Group By options (available for pie graphs, line graphs, bar graphs, and tables) enable you to select from the various aspects of the subscription results to focus the chart on exactly those data.
- You can add Filters to your query to drill into or to exclude data based on the same set of options.
✔️ TIP: You can add one or multiple Group By and Filter options to refine the data as you see fit. Generally, you select Group By options to view specific slices of data, and then use the Filters options for further refinement.
📝 NOTE: These options can be used both to group and filter data.
Group By options
The Subscriptions data source has the following options for grouping your analytics data. These can be used individually or multi-selected (i.e., used in conjunction with one another) in order to create charts that focus on very specific aspects of your data.
- Category: Name and ID - any category in which there was a subscription event (e.g., a user followed it, unfollowed it, or updated their preferences)
- Total Followed Subscribers - the number of users who were following a category, at a particular point in time, in which there was a subscription event
- Total Category Digest Subscribers - the number of users who are subscribed to your Email Digest -- by the categories that are being followed -- from when Email Digest was enabled in your community to when the report was generated, and in which categories there was a subscription event
- Subcommunity: Folder, Locale, Name, and ID - "properties" data for subcommunities in which there was a subscription event
- Following - the number of new subscriptions for just the current day
- In-App: Discussions and Comments - subscription events that occurred in community posts
- Email: Discussions and Comments - subscription events that were initiated from within an email message
- Email Digest - the number of users who are newly subscribed to Email Digest
đź“ť NOTE:Â This differs from Total Digest Subscribers (below) because it does not include historical subscriptions (i.e., users who were already subscribed to Email Digest, prior to the time period in which there was a subscription event).
- URL - the web pages on which subscription events occurred
- Site ID - the IDs of sites on which subscription events occurred
- Date Added - the dates on which subscription events occurred
- Followed: User Name, User Role Name, User ID, User Rank Name, and User Role ID - details about the users who followed or unfollowed a category
- User Role Type, User Name, User Role Name, and User ID - details about the users who took subscription actions
- Rank ID and Rank Name - rank-based details about users who took subscription actions
- User Session ID, User Role ID, and User UUID - user-based details about users who took subscription actions
- Country and Country Code - the name and code of the country in which subscription events occurred
- Type - the type of subscriber events (e.g., subscribed, followed, unsubscribed, unfollowed)
- Total Digest Subscribers - the number of users who are subscribed to your Email Digest dating back to from when Email Digest was enabled in your community to when the report was generated, and who are following categories in which there was a subscription event
