Advanced Analytics overview
Advanced Analytics is available as an addon to some Higher Logic Vanilla (Vanilla) plans. It is a robust suite of data analytics that chart date-based community-activity data. Administrators can review these data in order to gain more advanced insights into various user activity in their community.
The out-of-the-box Advanced Analytics reporting focuses on the following aspects of community activity.
The results are presented right on the Analytics tab of the Dashboard in a variety of chart types, as shown below. On the page, you can:
- select a preset time period or specify a custom date range,
- filter the results by Subcommunity and/or Category,
- view on-hover metrics in some of the charts, and
- download a .CSV file of many of the charts.
The data are presented in different types of charts, based on which type is best suited to presenting and interpreting the data.
- Scorecards are numbers that quantify the results.
- Leaderboards are tables that rank the results. The “previous” rankings are calculated using the rankings of the previous date range.
- Graphs are Line, Pie, and Bar graphs present the data graphically rather than as a simple numeral. Pie graphs represent multiple values for the selected date range.
The sections that follow describe the out-of-the-box reporting options in your Vanilla community.

When multiple lines are displayed, the series are stacked, i.e. the values on the Y axis are a cumulative total for each point.
Metrics
- Questions asked: Number of questions that were asked.
- Questions answered: Number of questions that have received an answer.
📝 This is a cumulative count and, as such, includes answers that were posted outside of the specified date range. This could result in a seemingly inflated number of "answers" relative to the number of "questions asked;" this is expected behavior. - Answers added: Number of answers that were posted to questions.
📝 This is a cumulative count and, as such, includes answers that were posted outside of the specified date range. Questions typically have multiple answers, so this count is expected to be very high, relative to other numbers in this set of analytics. - Answers accepted: Number of answers that were "accepted."
📝 An answer can only be "accepted" by the creator of the question, a moderator, or an administrator. - Average time to answer: Average amount of time it took for questions to have their first answer. Questions that do not have an answer are not counted.
