When you're working with Vanilla analytics to build Dashboards with out-of-the-box and/or custom charts, you might see some of the data represented as Other. This is not uncommon and happens for a variety of reasons.
This article describes some situations in which Other might display, rather than a more specific data label.
Other has been chosen as the default term to be used in place of other terms and language that indicate no data, such as "NULL" and "N/A". As such, Other can indicate that:
- there's no data for the data source,
- the parameter doesn’t apply to the data source, and/or
- a given metric / analytic has results that pre-date the enabling of analytics in your community.
Examples
The following screen shots show two charts that have instances of Other for data that were retrieved by the Page Views and Search data sources.
- In this chart, Other indicates that some page views occurred on pages that have not been assigned to a Category.
- In this chart, Other indicates that some searches were made by users who do not have a User Rank.
Review chart settings
If your charts are displaying less data and more instances of Other than you expect, review the chart's configuration settings.
If the chart's configuration settings are as you intend them to be or if changes to a chart's configuration settings still don't yield the results that you expect, contact Vanilla Support.
