Conversations are private messages sent between users. Users can use these to continue conversations outside of discussions, interact with moderators and administrators, or as a way to privately share information between each other. You can have multiple conversations open with the same user, similarly to e-mailing. Additionally, Conversations can involve multiple users.
While the feature is quite simple to use, there are a few options available.
For users to be able to start new private messaging conversations, their role needs to have the ‘Conversations - Add’ permission. See the Permissions article for more information on Roles and Permissions..
Alternatively, if you’d like to keep private messages for users that have more experience in the forum, you can grant Conversation permissions based on Ranks. In the settings for the ranks, you will see this as ‘Start Private Conversations.’

Users can control notifications for Conversations, opting in or out of both pop ups and email notifications upon receipt of new messages.
In order to provide users with the ability to completely ignore other users, blocking their messages, the Ignore add-on can be enabled. Contact your CSM to enable this add-on for your forum.
The Manage Moderation Conversations permission allows admins or mods to view and manage private messages between members. This permission also requires a config setting change that must be requested through your CSM or Implementation PM. This feature should only be for moderators or administrators.
Once this permission is added and the config change is made, a mod / admin can navigate to a user's inbox via their profile page and see all of their conversations:
