Conversations are private messages sent between users. Users can use these to continue conversations outside of discussions, interact with moderators and administrators, or as a way to privately share information between each other. You can have multiple conversations open with the same user, similarly to e-mailing. Additionally, Conversations can involve multiple users.
While the feature is quite simple to use, there are a few options available.
Conversation Permissions
For users to be able to start new private messaging conversations, their role needs to have the ‘Conversations - Add’ permission. See the Permissions article for more information on Roles and Permissions..
Alternatively, if you’d like to keep private messages for users that have more experience in the forum, you can grant Conversation permissions based on Ranks. In the settings for the ranks, you will see this as ‘Start Private Conversations.’
User Options
Users can control notifications for Conversations, opting in or out of both pop ups and email notifications upon receipt of new messages.
In order to provide users with the ability to completely ignore other users, blocking their messages, the Ignore add-on can be enabled. Contact Vanilla to enable this add-on for your forum.
