Does anyone gate their entire community? i.e. you can't see any community content unless you're signed in? Is there any reason NOT to do this?

Can you show just the homepage and gate everything else?
I'm wondering if I can configure permissions so that guests, unconfirmed and applicants can see the homepage of our community, but if they click anything they are prompted to sign in/register
