A lot of communities I've been checking out these days are leveraging our groups feature — whether groups are right for your community or if basic categories make more sense (but that's another post…) can be a hot topic, but if you've already got groups and want to analyze them a bit more to see how they are being used today, we've got you!
You can find comprehensive docs here, but I figured I'd share some of the charts I find most useful!
When you're playing with groups analytics, I find the first thing to wrap your mind around is that Groups data uses a type. This means for most meaningful charts, you're going to be playing with Types a lot.
You'll see these pop up in the Group By section, as well as the Filter Section:
But the fun doesn't stop there… here are some of my favourite analytics charts when it comes to groups:
⭐️ Groups Added
This might not be a crazy chart if you only allow admins and mods to add groups, but if you've got a huge community that allows users to create their own groups, this could be the stat for you!
You can see the most basic version of this in the screenshot above, but you can have even more fun with this by playing with the Group By option, for example if I choose
Data Source: Group
Group by: Username
Filter: Type equal to Add
You could also group by role, or even group privacy:
🔥 Users joining Groups
Another chart I think is useful is knowing how many users have joined groups:
Data Source: Group
Group by: Group Name
Filter: Type equal to Userjoin
✨ Who joined what groups?
If you want to see who joined a specific group, especially handy for highly curated communities that want to do reach outs or welcomes:
Data Source: Group
Group by: Group Name and Username
Filter: OPTIONAL
If this is a super long list, you might want to add a filter so you only get results from a particular group by adding a filter field of Group Name set to whatever group you want to focus on (or exclude):
