As I dig deeper into the impact of AI summaries on community engagement and site traffic, I’ve been exploring a term that’s quickly gaining traction: AIgents (AI agents).
These tools don’t just surface information—they act on behalf of users. Think: summarizing content, answering questions, and recommending next steps... all without users ever clicking into the original source. 😬
While this can create a faster, smoother experience for users (and I’ll admit—I personally love being able to scan summarized info across sites without clicking into each one), it introduces some major questions for community professionals - especially those managing open or hybrid communities.
Why This Matters for Community Builders:
- Our best answers and insights might be scraped, summarized, and reused without attribution
- People may stop landing on our sites from search entirely
- Communities—especially smaller ones—are often left out of the “source lists” these tools pull from, which makes visibility and awareness even harder
These agents aren’t just changing the content experience—they’re shaping the customer journey in ways we haven’t fully accounted for yet.
Let’s Talk:
- Have you seen signs of AIgents reshaping your content traffic or search behavior?
- How are you preparing for increased AI reuse of community content?
- Should we be concerned—or is this a chance to rethink how we present value?
Looking forward to hearing how you're thinking about this. Let’s dig in together.
