I was chatting with a newly launched Vanilla Customer trying to hack creating custom dashboards from scratch, and this made me realize that although it’s common knowledge, a hand full of users are still unaware that you can copy Vanillas OOTB dashboard, edit it and set your own filters and that’s all!
Also, for Vanilla newbies, I like to encourage them to start by editing our OOTB dashboard, this gives a better sense of how the filters work, what data they draw and once you’re comfortable you can dive deeper creating your own custom dashboards yourself, so let’s get into it.
You can start off by going into your analytics dashboard.
Understanding the type of Data, you’re trying to view will also help you choose the right chart form. Let’s assume you’re trying to see “community posts by users” From the below Engagement chart, a table format will be most preferable.
Click on copy highlighted below, this will automatically copy ALL charts in the engagement analytics, and then the fun stuff begins:
Choose the chart format you want- In this case the Table format- Click on the three dots and you have the options below, select edit.
And you have the entire chart open. To the right side is the chart option filter, this resource will help you understand the filter options
For example, for the community Posts by Username chart, if you would like to include usernames, you want to Group By: Username, and this will populate Username Vs Posts table.
Make sure to name your dashboard and hit save when you’re done and if you do not need the rest of the charts copied, you can delete them to have a cleaner Dashboard.
Pretty easy and straight forward, and this helps you get those charts up faster.

I hope you found this helpful, Enjoy the rest of your week!
