If your Vanilla community migration coincides with launching your community, there are a few extra items to check off the list, which your CSM will coordinate with you. At the start of your onboarding journey, you provided our Professional Services team with a copy of your data which we will have used to estimate and schedule your test and final migrations.
The test migration may occur days or weeks before the final migration so that our team can ensure that all necessary data will migrate successfully.
Below are the steps you should take in order to ensure the success of the final migration.
Day before launch
- Place your current/old forum on Read Only
- Notify users that there will be a migration/move on the current forum and that there may be some downtime
- Send Vanilla your final database dump from the old community platform OR Vanilla begins scrape of current forum (if migration is via API)
- Data is migrated to your Vanilla Production site
Launch day
- Verify the migration and make the necessary adjustments
- Roles
- Ranks
- Badges
- Reorganize Categories (if necessary)
- Enable Single Sign-On on your Production site
- Test SSO
- Set up DNS, redirects, custom domain
- Update links from your main website to your new community URL
- Notify your CSM when you’re ready for emails to be re-enabled
- Launch!
