If your Higher Logic Vanilla (Vanilla) community migration coincides with launching your community, there are a few extra items to check off the list, which your CSM will coordinate with you.
At the start of your onboarding journey, you provided our Professional Services team with a copy of your data, which we will have used to estimate and schedule your test and final migrations.
- The test migration may occur days or weeks before the final migration so that our team can ensure that all necessary data will migrate successfully.
- Below are the steps you should take in order to ensure the success of the final migration.
Day before launch
- Set your current/old community to Read Only
- Notify users that there will be a migration/move on the current community and that there may be some downtime
- Send Vanilla your final database dump from the old community platform OR Vanilla begins scrape of current community (if migration is via API)
- Data is migrated to your Vanilla Production site
Launch day
- Verify the migration and make the necessary adjustments
- Roles
- Ranks
- Badges
- Reorganize Categories (if necessary)
- Enable Single Sign-On on your Production site
- Test SSO
- Set up DNS, redirects, custom domain
- Update links from your main website to your new community URL
- Notify your CSM when you’re ready for emails to be re-enabled
- Launch!
