Can you opt out of notifications for a specific thread?

Related to my previous question… Is it possible to opt out of receiving any more notifications for a particular thread?

I know you can change your notification preferences, but (please correct me if I'm wrong) these apply across the board.

I'd love to be able to let users know how to "mute" threads they may have participated in but which no longer interest them. E.g. we post a lot of feedback opportunities which can stretch to 4 pages of comments. I can see a world where a user who replied early starts to get frustrated by the amount of comments and doesn't want to keep receiving them as notifications but they DO want to see all replies to a question someone has posted.

This has been raised from several of our members as well, at times they no longer want to receive notifications from a discussion they may have participated in. I was looking into this a while back and from what I understand, using the unsubscribe option in an email notification will untick the new comments on posts I've participated in option in full rather than for just that specific discussion which isn't ideal.

I raised a feature request for this here if you want to add a vote to it.
