Human vs. Non Human Traffic

Hello! Lately (as I think we all are), I have been noticing such a huge uptick in non-human traffic. I know that it is "normal" to see an increase, but I feel like my ratio has gotten out of hand. Below are some of my ratios from the past couple months. I would love to know what your community views look like in terms of human and non-human views.

August Total: 159,328 (Human = 16,420) 10.3% views are human

July Total: 96,984 (Human = 10,902) 11.2% views are human

June Total: 91,325 (Human = 30,275) 33.1% views are human

May Total: 26,573 (Human = 23,454) 88.26% views are human

As you can see, it was pretty normal until June when suddenly views went up by 64k!

Page Views: 411,232 (120,730 human) 29% of views are human

Visits: 349,312 visits (60,426 human) 17% of visits are human

August

Page Views: 347,136 (89,825 human) 26% of views are human

Visits: 312,987 (56,509 human) 18% of views are human

Something to bear in mind, which I think is important when you're looking at your metrics, is about the Likely Automated filter that you'll see as an option in your filter list and when it took effect. Specifically, the Human User filter only split Likely Automated bot traffic out from the Human filter from mid-June so any traffic metrics you see attributed to the Human User filter prior to that also includes Likely Automated bot traffic. Essentially your human user metrics in May & partially in June also includes Likely Automated views & visits as well.

Question for you.. We're seeing a disproportionate number of views attributed to our sign-in page when compared to our Active Users even with the Human User filter applied. Is it the same for your Community?

For example: We're a public Community and in August we had 89,825 human views in total but our most viewed page was our sign-in page with 21,695 views (24% of total views) but only 321 active users.

Unless I'm misunderstanding, I find it a challenge to understand how we've had 321 members login across the whole month but over 21K hits on our sign-in page.

I think the even bigger challenge is knowing how much of the non-human traffic is useful and as a result of human actions (such as asking an AI tool a question).

What is clear is that pageviews are no longer a very accurate or helpful indication of your community's health or success. We need much, much better ways to be able to demonstrate our community's value to stakeholders.
