Help Needed with Assigning Posts to Other Users

Hi everyone,

I'm currently trying to figure out how to assign posts to other users so they can provide answers. I'm aware that certain permissions and roles are required for this, but I'm not sure how to properly implement it on our platform.

If anyone has experience with assigning posts or can share best practices on how to manage this effectively, I would greatly appreciate your insights! Thank you!

Such a good question — and there are a few different ways “assigning” can work in Vanilla, so I just want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing before we go too far down one path.

When you say assign posts, are you thinking:

• Using Escalations in the CMD to assign discussions internally?
• Or more of a structured workflow where certain folks (staff, volunteer mods, SMEs, group leaders, etc.) are responsible for answering in specific categories or groups?

A couple things that would help us guide you:

• Who would posts be assigned to — staff, volunteers, or general members?
• Is this internal-only triage, or do you want visible ownership in the community?
• Is the ownership based on category or group?

I’m also super curious what others in the community are doing here 👀 — there are some creative workflows out there.

Especially now with our newer group improvements, you can optionally give Group Leaders access to CMD escalations within the groups they manage, which opens up some nice distributed moderation models. You can also handle ownership on a per-category basis, depending on how your structure is set up.

And don’t even get me started on what you could layer in with Automation Rules to help route, escalate, or notify the right people automatically 😅 That’s where things get really fun.
