Values for Filter (or any other free text)

Hi again,

I am afraid I am a bit overwhelmed by the options I have in the (filter) settings and I need some limitations or guidance like drop-down menus and error messages 🙌

I thought the below setup would give me the total amount of registrations from users visiting our community from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

But it´s not.

I do not get an error or anything that would help me debug the settings.

Is there any documentation about the exact wording we can choose here? Or would there be an option for some drop-downs to select from to just minimize the failure possibilities?

The issue you're seeing with your chart not loading results for registrations by country when you've applied your filters is linked to the fact that you're using multiple filters. In this case you've configured a query that is looking for registrations where Country = Germany AND Austria AND Switzerland, which isn't possible. What you'll want to use instead is a single filter that uses the ONE OF Operator

Just a heads up, Amanda has flagged a bug with the Value input field I'm instructing you to use here. It's being quite fickle. We'll be working on fixes to this ASAP, but I've added some pointers for how to navigate these issues here -

Regarding the chart editor and its vast number of options,I completely understand. Currently our filters use a freeform field, but we're looking to bring some improvements into this in the new year with some dropdowns providing you with the options available for each filter-type so there's less thinking involved, and less room for human error.

In the interim, here's what I do when I'm questioning the exact name of the filter I'm wanting to apply. I create my chart as a table and group the results by the filter I'm wanting to use. This will list out all of the different options I have. I then add my filters and switch the chart type if I need.

I understand the one of function, but: What do I need to do if I want to see the number of page views from all German-speaking countries (= Austria, Germany and Switzerland).

Let´s say, we have a German subcommunity and I compare the number of page views on this locale with the number of page views we get from the "classical" German-speaking countries.

Do I need to create three widgets - one for each country?

Hey Esther! You should be able to group by country, and then limit the countries you are seeing by entering "one of" .

In this example. You will see I have

the data source I want (registrations)
grouped by (country)
filtered by (continent)

So to set it up to compare page views by country, I think you would:

Group by (country)
Function (count)
Filter by, field (country), Operator (One of), Value (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)

@Val did I get it right? @Esther99 , what other questions are you trying to understand? I've done some testing, and I'd love the practice sorting them out if you want to share them.

Soooo - it took me a couple of days to get back to my Analytics. But, you know what? You´re right! Thanks a lot for helping me understand how it works!

Looks like I was wrong initially and I didn´t understand "one of" even though I thought 😅 I am still not sure whether I understand it now as I translate "One of" as "one of the following countries but not altogether" but -hey - I don´t complain if I get the info I need 💯
