Time for another #TipTuesday!
Rich Editor supports the embedding of iFrame content from external sources, both in your community's:
- Knowledge bases
- Layout Editor widgets
- Discussions and comments
As a community manager or moderator, you're the heart of the community space, welcoming new members, answering questions, keeping things on track, and driving engagement. You can kick off new members’ journeys with a warm welcome and a quick orientation video in an HTML widget on your homepage or at the top of a welcome discussion. A Loom walkthrough of the community layout, how to set up a profile, or where to find key resources is more engaging than a wall of text.
How to add a Loom Video to an HTML widget:
- Record your Loom video.
- Select Share from the top-right corner of the video.
- In the share window, click on Embed.
- Click Copy embed code.
- In your Vanilla community, go to the Appearance tab.
- Choose the layout page where you want to display the video (e.g., the homepage).
- Add an HTML widget to that page.
- Paste the embed code into the widget’s HTML section.
How to add a Loom video to a discussion or comment:
- Record your Loom video.
- Select Share from the top-right corner of the video.
- In the share window, click on Embed.
- Click Copy embed code.
- In your Vanilla community, navigate to the desired discussion or comment.
- Click the Insert Media icon at the bottom of the editor.
- Paste the Loom embed code.
Security Settings
If you add a Loom iFrame or any other embed, update your security settings. Users can only embed iFrame content in their posts and comments from domains you've specifically added to your trusted domains. For example, if Loom.com is not listed in your trusted domains, users will not be able to iFrame Loom videos in posts and comments. This is an intentional security measure that prevents users from bringing content into your Vanilla community from unapproved and potentially unsafe sources.
How to add Loom to your Trusted Domains
- Access the Dashboard
- Navigate to Settings > Technical > Security
- Add *.loom.com to your Trusted Domains
