Which members are following categories

Hi team!

Need a bit of advice, is there a table/chart we can create in analytics that can show which specific members are following each category on Community?

I'm doing a bit of restructuring and creating a few specific new subcategories dedicated to product news/announcements to work in conjunction with the default notification preferences functionality. As part of that I'll be prompting members to follow these new categories so they receive notifications each time a new post is published.

I'm interested in monitoring the success, or at least progress of this and in particular which which members are following each category.

Couple of ways that you could approach this!

How many people are following what categories?

I would use something like this:

Note that this includes folks who 'unfollowed' as well, so I would recommend adding this filter:

How many TOTAL followers has a category had over time?

If you want to look at a deep dive for a certain category, I would do something like this:

note the filters here as well:

Exactly who is following a category?

To answer this question I would do something like this:

Just a follow up question in regard to the 'Exactly who is following a category' table 🙂..

I've created a few of these for our various categories and I've noticed that a lot of them show individual members have a subscription count greater than 1 for that category (example below).

Does this mean that specific member followed that respective category multiple times within the designated time period? (I filtered out unfollows as you recommended)

If so, does that mean this table shows members who followed the category at some point within the chosen time period by hitting the Follow button but doesn't necessarily mean they are still following it right now? (Does that make sense?😵)

To put it more simply, is there way to generate a table that only shows which members are currently following a specific category right now?

@Rav Singh If you would like to locate what the total count means in respects to a per category basis by individual user. I have found this specific chart build to locate that type of information.

Choose the Count Unique function as our metric with a field as Type. Our filters are equal to category_follow, and not equal to category_unfollow.

You can even go as far as adding an additional filter on a per field: Category Name/ID where ID is recommended. This would then capture the total users who have triggered the category_follow event in your chosen time frame.

If you wanted to automate this, you would need to use our analytics query API.

What is the difference between data source: Subscriptions and Subscriptions Change? Subscription doesn't load any data for me however I see it when I change it to Subscriptions Change.

The 'Subscriptions' data source houses legacy data and is only functional if you are looking to discover counts prior to 2024. I believe we are leaving that available to clients for now, so I can see why you may have some confusion.

The 'Subscriptions Change' data source is the new source of truth for actions, which include:
